🔥 We Are Returning to the Fire: Denouncing Indian Affairs and Reclaiming Our Sovereignty

Posted by Rooted Warrior Society | June 3, 2025

For too long, we as the Original Nations of Turtle Island have been confined under the weight of colonial bureaucracy. Indian Affairs, the Indian Act, and federal band councils were never meant to serve our people—they were created to control, assimilate, and erase us. Today, we stand united in declaring: enough is enough.

We are done asking for permission to be who we are.
We are done with the paper trails that lead nowhere.
We are done with leadership systems that answer to Canada instead of to the people and the land.

🪶 We Denounce Indian Affairs

The Department of Indian Affairs does not represent our people, our laws, or our future. It is a colonial institution designed to replace our matriarchs with ministers, our councils with compliance, and our sacred ways with policies written in Ottawa.

We denounce the Indian Act and all its mechanisms of control:

  • Chief and Council systems that answer to federal budgets instead of traditional law

  • The manipulation of trust funds and resources without consent

  • The interference in ceremony, land, education, and our children

We will no longer be managed. We will govern ourselves.

🔥 We Are Returning to the Council Fire

The Council Fire is our original system of governance, built on Natural Law, ancestral knowledge, and sacred relationships. It is where every voice matters. Where the grandmothers, warriors, youth, and land defenders sit in circle. Where decisions are made in alignment with Creation—not colonial politics.

We are reigniting these fires across Turtle Island.

  • Fires of truth

  • Fires of accountability

  • Fires of renewal

From Treaty 1 to Treaty 11, from the Dene to the Anishnabe to the Nehiyawak, we are restoring what was taken: our laws, our roles, our rites of passage, our responsibility to each other and to the land.

🌎 This Is Sovereignty in Action

We are not waiting for recognition. We are already sovereign.

  • We are holding ceremonies and naming our children under our own law

  • We are protecting the water and land through our own protocols

  • We are training our youth through rites of passage, martial arts, and cultural camps

  • We are reclaiming our governance systems, one fire at a time

This is not a protest—it is a resurgence. A spiritual awakening. A return.

✊🏽 Call to the People

To all our relatives: come home to the fire. Whether you have been disconnected, displaced, or discouraged—know that you are still needed.

Let us gather in unity under our own laws. Let us dismantle colonial dependency by rebuilding our food systems, education models, and healing lodges rooted in who we are.

Let the Thunderbird carry this message across the nations:
We are rising. The council fire is lit. The people are taking their rightful place.

In love, resistance, and natural law,
